Smart devices always seem to die at the most inopportune times. Maybe, you’re on your way to a big meeting, when you suddenly realize that your smart phone's battery is out of charge. Sound familiar? When you need battery power ASAP, it can be frustrating to realize that your smartphone, tablet, or other devices simply isn’t charging as quickly as it could. The following tips offer a few solutions.

Switch into airplane mode.

Airplane mode isn’t just for airplanes! This setting is also great if you want to keep your battery from draining or aid your phone in charging faster. You won’t be able to get texts or search online, but you’ll save power because your phone won’t be constantly searching for a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.

Turn the device off while charging.

It sounds simple but turning your device off when charging is a great way to ensure that all power goes directly to your battery while your device charges. If you don’t want to turn off your phone completely, consider switching to low power mode. You can find it in Settings on an iPhone. On Android phones, it's known as battery saver mode.

Plug your phone into a wall socket.

USB ports and car chargers may be handy when you’re on-the-go, but they aren’t the most effective way to charge your device. An outlet will charge your phone faster. That’s because USB ports typically charge at 0.5 amps, so it’s going to take twice the time to charge your phone than the 1-amp power adapter it came with.

Clean out your charging port.

If you’ve had your device for a while, it might be your charging port – not the battery or charger itself – that needs looking at. Over time, lint and dust can accumulate in your charging port and clog it, making it less likely that you’ll be able to charge your smartphone fully. To clean it, turn your phone off and use a toothpick to gently remove debris.
