Ask actor and musician Kevin Bacon about the first show that he and his brother played as the Bacon Brothers and you will gain plenty of insight into a Dutchess County venue that has generated a great deal of Hudson Valley history. The Bacon Brothers played their first show in 1995 at the old Towne Crier Cafe on Route 22 in Pawling.
Kevin and Michael Bacon had learned of the Towne Crier — now in Beacon — through a musical associate, after the Emmy-nominated actor and Emmy-winning composer decided to share their passion for music with a live audience. And Kevin Bacon was familiar with the old Towne Crier because he drove through Pawling on Route 22 to reach the home he owns in Connecticut.
The musical history of the Bacons dates back to the late 1960s, when Michael, a professional musician, would perform with his band and a young Kevin would tag along. Michael Bacon plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar and cello. Kevin plays acoustic six-string guitar, acoustic 12-string guitar, percussion and harmonica. Each brother sings the songs he wrote. Together, Kevin and Michael Bacon generate a sharp, soulful sound that reveals a love for creative expression that transcends their artistic day jobs.
